Nipissing District Developmental Screening Tool
It can be hard for parents to know exactly what to look for when they suspect their child is having a developmental issue. The free Nipissing District Developmental Screening (NDDS) tool can be very helpful and is available for children from 1 month to 6 years of age.
Easy-to-use. As a simple one-page checklist with yes/no questions and no “scoring,” the NDDS is very easy-to-use for everyone. Each one also features clear illustrations, easy-to-read language and colour-coding by age.
Time saving. With yes/no questions and no scoring, the NDDS takes only minutes to complete. The following areas of a child’s skills are explored in the NDDS: vision, hearing, speech, language, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, social, emotional and self-help.
Available in multiple languages. The NDDS is available in English, French, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese.
Includes activities. Each checklist features a sheet full of activities to enhance a child’s development. Each activity has an icon representing a primary area of development including emotional, fine motor, gross motor, learning and thinking, self-help, social and communication.
Ontario residents may register to receive the free NDDS tool to their email inbox!
When completing the NDDS tool, if you have questions or concerns about your child’s development, we encourage you to speak with your child’s pediatrician or family doctor, a family educator or call Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744 for guidance to finding the services in your area that can help.
