Act Early Project on ASD

Act Early!  Help for young children at-risk for autism

by Robin Gaines, Ph.D., Speech-Language Pathologist

The Act Early Autism Project is presently studying an early intervention parent-training program designed for families of very young children.  Based on studies from the M.I.N.D. Institute of Davis California, parents learn how to promote communication, social and play skills, and positive social interaction with their child — within the child’s daily activities in the home.   No direct referral to this project is possible at this time.  If a health care practitioner is concerned about a child presenting with early signs of autism, a direct referral can be made to the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre.   However, results and outcomes of this parent-training program will be available in the next year and will be posted here in this website.
