Speech and language checklists

Speech and Language milestones for children between the ages of 0 to 5 years can be found in many First Words resources and other available pediatric tools.  As a health professional, you may use one or a combination of First Words resources, the Rourke Baby Record (2009 Enhanced 18 month well baby visit version) or the Nipissing District Developmental  Screen.

The first years of life are very important for learning speech and language. From the time they are born, children start communicating. Very early in their lives, they learn to understand what you are saying and to make sounds of their own. They are beginning to develop speech and language skills. Communication skills are critical to a child’s future success.
