Information to share
In order to help parents understand and stimulate their child’s speech and language development or to access First Words services, here are a few useful tools:
- Create a Language Development corner on your bulletin board. Order various First Words resources to help decorate it!
- Give parents a copy of the milestone brochures. They are available in many languages and you can download them or order them for free.
- Lend families your copy of the First Words DVD: Opening the Gate to Communicate. It will help them see what First Words services look like.
- Have parents checkout the First Words website to find information on speech and language development, milestones and strategies.
- Ask them to call Ottawa Public Health Information at
(613) 580-6744 ext. 28020. There is a multilingual service to help families who speak languages other than English and French. - Encourage concerned families to attend a community screening clinic where they can meet with a Speech-Language Pathologist.
