Knowing how communication develops is key to planning age appropriate activities and identifying possible speech or language delays.  The Ministry of Children and Youth Services has produced two speech and language milestone brochures: “Your baby’s speech and language skills from birth to 30 months” and “Your preschool child’s speech and language development” to help you do this.

These milestone brochures outline early milestones,  They also provide suggestions on how to stimulate language and where to access services.  Keep in mind that these milestones represent the minimum expectations; 85% of children in each age group will have mastered all the skills listed.
